The Learning Workshop offers a variety of services for young children, including preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, after care and tutoring for children in kindergarten, first or second grade.

Our Beginners program for 2-year-olds is 2 mornings a week, 2 hours each morning. Children who are 3 ˝ and older join our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten class. Our schedule is relatively flexible, with full- and part-day options. We provide care after the school day. By appointment, any child in K-2 can receive individualized tutoring or enrichment.

Most of our programs are conducted in a multiage setting of 12 children. This small class size allows for the nurturing of strong relationships among all members of The Learning Workshop.

“Size of group encourages learning, self-confidence and fosters friendships.”
Stacey Marx, parent

In our multiage class, we attempt to balance boys and girls, kindergarteners and preschoolers. We are flexible in the grouping of our children. Sometimes all of our children are together playing, singing or collaborating on a project. Other times the children are divided into groups based on similar interests or similar developmental levels. The children also work individually with an adult.

The teacher is keenly aware of each child's interests, temperament, strengths, learning style and needs. Based on what she knows about each child, the teacher designs individualized activities. Children are able to play, learn, and work at their own pace, reaching their full potential. Highly capable children are challenged at their own level. And children who need a good amount of teacher support receive it through one-on-one interaction.

Generally speaking, the learning activities for kindergarten children are designed to have them master certain skills and concepts in preparation for their following school experience. Activities for pre-kindergarten and preschool children are designed to expose them to skills and ideas and explore, rather than master, skills.

"I am so pleased that [my child] is spending time with children who are older…Their abilities inspire [him].
Sarah Barnes, parent

Our days are rich with cognitive, social, and physical challenges; full of the comforts of good friends, loving teachers, and familiar routines; and busy with child-centered, developmentally appropriate activities. By providing a balanced program honoring multiple intelligences and varied learning styles, we support the growth of the listener, speaker, reader, writer, mathematician, scientist, artist, musician, dancer, and friend within each child.

The Learning Workshop may be the right place for your child if you are looking for the following characteristics in a school: a balance of structured learning, creative expression and free play; activities that build academic skills at each individual child's level; experiences that are based on children's interests; small class size, allowing for maximum student comfort and individual attention; a mixed-age group, allowing children to stay with one teacher for several years and to interact with classmates older and younger than themselves; a loving environment fostering kindness, respect, and peaceful problem solving.
